BOTOX® injections are used to reduce the appearance of “crow’s feet,” the lines that develop on the outer sides of the eyes, and the glabellar folds, or frown lines between the eyes. Once muscles of the forehead are injected with BOTOX® Cosmetic, they become relaxed and smooth the deep creases and wrinkles between and around the eyes.
BOTOX® therapy blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines, relaxing the muscles so they do not contract. After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected.
The procedure is simple, non-surgical, and no anesthesia is required. The entire treatment takes approximately 10 minutes. Discomfort is minimal, similar to the sensation of a bug bite. Most patients return to their normal activity immediately. Results last up to 4 months.
BOTOX® therapy also has become an effective treatment for blepharospasm (excessive blinking), strabismus (misaligned eyes), hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), cervical dystonia (disorder of head and neck muscles), and chronic and migraine headaches.
